Employee Health and Safety Specialist II

Location: Hybrid role based within a reasonable commuting distance of Altoona, Iowa, or the Kansas City, Missouri area; listed sites include Altoona and Des Moines, Iowa, and Lenexa, Kansas. Travel of up to 60% is required, including overnight travel across Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, and South Dakota.

What you will do

• Lead and coordinate EHS activities across assigned Heartland district facilities.
• Conduct EHS inspections and audits and maintain local EHS programs in line with company policies and regulations.
• Provide EHS consultation, coordinate training, and liaise with authorities, communities, and external organizations.
• Recognize acute hazards, recommend or implement immediate corrections, and participate in incident investigations and emergency response.
• Maintain SDS documentation, workers’ compensation records, injury and illness records, KPIs, and other EHS administration.
• Analyze EHS performance trends, support cross-functional projects, and manage a fleet of approximately 170 vehicles, including registration and DOT compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and 5–7 years of relevant experience.
• Working knowledge of mechanical engineering, commercial refrigeration, OSHA, DOT, and EPA requirements.
• OSHA 30 or a similar certification and a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge and practical experience implementing ISO 14001 and OHS management systems.
• Ability to climb ladders and lift up to 50 pounds.
• Strong problem-solving, self-management, and Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
