Principal Engineer - Controls, Drive By-Wire (Automotive)

Pay range: $91,500–$148,100 per year

What you will do

• Develop, verify, validate, test, and implement advanced vehicle control systems for unmanned ground vehicles and active safety applications.
• Design and refine vehicle motion-control strategies and embedded control algorithms using MATLAB/Simulink, virtual simulation, modeling tools, and HIL platforms.
• Transition validated control strategies into vehicle testing and production implementation.
• Define and document system and software requirements with Systems Engineering and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors.
• Support feasibility assessments, resource estimates, budgets, schedules, and technical risk evaluations.
• Lead technical problem solving, functional safety activities, system integration, root-cause analysis, and corrective action development.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering with 5+ years of related experience, or a master's degree in engineering with 3+ years of related experience.
• Experience with model-based software development in MATLAB/Simulink and embedded controls.
• Knowledge of classical, optimal, adaptive, and model-predictive control, state-space modeling, vehicle dynamics, and physics-based control algorithms.
• Experience developing vehicle-control features such as ABS, ESC, hill-hold assist, adaptive cruise control, robotic motion control, or similar systems.
• Experience with CAN, LIN, and Automotive Ethernet protocols, plus SIL, HIL, and vehicle validation environments.
• Ability to provide technical leadership, make significant engineering decisions, and communicate complex concepts across software, hardware, systems, functional safety, and supplier teams.

Nice to have

• Proficiency with Vector CANalyzer, dSPACE TargetLink, and dSPACE ControlDesk.
• Experience in automotive, commercial vehicle, off-highway, or heavy equipment industries.
• Familiarity with ISO, SAE, ISO 26262, IEC 61508, or MIL-STD 882 standards.
• Experience developing engineering tools, automation scripts, or data analysis applications with Python.
