TL;DR
Staff Engineer – Chassis and Motion Controls (Robotics): Designing and integrating chassis, suspension, drivetrain, and motion control systems for autonomous security robots with an accent on vehicle dynamics, electromechanical systems, and production development. Focus on developing steer-by-wire and drive-by-wire controls, validating vehicle stability and ride quality, and taking chassis platforms from concept through production.

Location: Full-time, on-site at Sunnyvale HQ, California; no relocation provided

Base salary: $180,000–$210,000 per year, depending on experience; stock options included.

What you will do

  • Lead the architecture and integration of chassis, suspension, drivetrain, braking, steering, wheels, and tires for autonomous security robots.
  • Develop and tune steering, traction, and motion control strategies, including steer-by-wire and drive-by-wire subsystems.
  • Define vehicle-level requirements for stability, lateral acceleration, ride quality, system sizing, and functional safety.
  • Design, build, analyze, and test prototypes at subsystem, system, and full-vehicle levels.
  • Assess manufacturing, assembly, serviceability, and production feasibility while scaling automotive architectures for lower-volume robots.
  • Collaborate with autonomy, electrical, and systems teams; lead design reviews and failure analysis, mentor engineers, and establish testing and validation practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
  • 10+ years of automotive experience and experience taking at least one chassis product from concept to production.
  • Strong knowledge of chassis systems, vehicle dynamics, mechanical and electromechanical design, prototyping, and vehicle validation.
  • Experience with Vector, ETAS, or New Eagle tools, including CANape, INCA, or RaptorCAL.
  • Familiarity with chassis software development using MATLAB, Simulink, or RaptorDEV.
  • Ability to work with electrical schematics and automotive bus systems such as CAN and Ethernet, including requirements definition, release processes, and test planning.
