TL;DR

Location: Appleton, Wisconsin, United States

Pay range: $79,300–$126,900 annually.

Pierce Manufacturing, an Oshkosh company, designs and builds customized fire and emergency vehicles, including pumpers, aerials, tankers, and rescue units.

What you will do

  • Develop and implement control strategies and subsystem requirements for advanced vehicle control systems.
  • Research, develop, verify, validate, test, and support production implementation of vehicle subsystem controls.
  • Build control strategies in virtual simulation environments and hardware-in-the-loop simulators using modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, ADAMS, and AMESim.
  • Transfer simulated strategies to vehicle testing and production implementation for engine, hybrid, electric, autonomous, and auxiliary systems.
  • Collaborate with software engineers, internal engineering groups, external suppliers, industry consortiums, and universities.
  • Support project requirements, test plans, milestones, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and mentorship of entry-level engineers, designers, and technicians.

Requirements

  • Accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field, with at least three years of related experience; alternatively, a relevant master's degree with at least one year of related experience.
  • Strong foundation in control systems, sensors, actuators, and system integration.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and PLC programming, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens TIA Portal, FactoryTalk, or Connected Components Workbench.
  • Experience with industrial automation, robotics, AGVs or AMRs, and control-system development and optimization.
  • Experience designing, wiring, and maintaining industrial control panels in compliance with NEC and national electrical codes.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, industrial networks, and communication protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, CAN, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, and Ethernet.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of embedded and automation programming with C, C#, or Python.
  • Experience with automotive or heavy-duty vehicle systems.
  • Familiarity with IIoT, Industry 4.0, and Ignition MES, including Perspective, Vision, and Edge.
  • Ability to lead projects and support automation-system installation, commissioning, and maintenance.
