Principal Engineer - Interconnections

Location: Office-based in Binghamton, NY or Rochester, NY, United States

Salary: $128,000–$160,400 base salary per year, depending on experience and location.

What you will do

• Lead complex distribution planning, reliability, large-scale customer load, and distributed energy resource interconnection studies.
• Develop scoping documents and recommend substations, transformer upgrades, equipment replacements, and other distribution system reinforcements.
• Design alternative solutions, including Non-Wires Alternatives, to address unique system and process challenges.
• Manage company-wide projects, studies, initiatives, and demonstration projects across multiple operating companies.
• Lead teams, mentor Interconnection Engineers, review engineering work, and direct resources outside the department.
• Present technical findings to regulatory and public entities, support storm restoration, and serve as a technical leader for the Interconnection group.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
• 10 years of relevant experience.
• Extensive experience in distribution planning, reliability engineering, and distributed energy resources.
• Knowledge of planning, operations, engineering design, analytics, modeling, calculations, construction, and engineering documentation.
• Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory standards, including NERC, NPCC, ISO, and PUC requirements.
• Experience with power system studies and analytics tools such as CYME, PSS/E, SYNERGY, or ASPEN.

• Advanced degree.
• Professional Engineer license.
