Temporary Sourcing and Recruiting Specialist

Location: Janelia Research Campus in Ashburn, Virginia, United States; hybrid schedule with three days on-site and two days remote. This is a six-month temporary contract position, with a possible but not guaranteed extension.

Hiring pay range: $50.00–$70.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Build active pipelines for corporate, scientific, and operational roles across multiple talent segments.
• Source passive candidates through publication databases, preprint servers, conferences, professional societies, lab alumni networks, GitHub, niche boards, and other targeted channels.
• Manage selected searches end to end, including outreach, screening, coordination, and offer-stage support.
• Conduct initial screens to assess candidate interest, qualifications, and mission alignment.
• Maintain accurate stage tracking and outreach documentation in Workday Recruiting.
• Share real-time market intelligence and communicate pipeline status as priorities change.

Requirements

• At least five years of sourcing and/or full-cycle recruiting experience.
• Experience across at least two talent segments: corporate and professional, scientific and research, or technical.
• Experience sourcing lab-based, academic, or research-adjacent roles and understanding scientific communities.
• Ability to write effective outreach for passive candidates and explain the methodology behind successful messaging.
• Self-direction, clear communication, and the ability to manage shifting priorities across simultaneous searches.
• Experience with Workday Recruiting or a comparable ATS; Workday proficiency is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience in mission-driven, nonprofit, academic, or research institutions.
• Familiarity with ABRCMS, SACNAS, Society for Neuroscience, or similar scientific organizations.
• Relationships with career services offices, research programs, or scientific professional communities.
• Experience using LinkedIn Recruiter as one sourcing channel among many.
