TL;DR
Director of Raw Materials (Textiles): Leading textile sourcing, material development, and bulk production for apparel collections with an accent on fabric R&D, supplier partnerships, costing, quality, and sustainability. Focus on managing material calendars and PLM data, negotiating lead times and orders, mitigating supply risks, and coaching the materials team.

Location: New York, NY; based in the NY office

Base salary: $130,000–$150,000 annually, plus benefits, a short-term incentive program, clothing allowance, and merchandise discounts.

What you will do

  • Develop sourcing strategies for woven, cut-and-sew, and leather materials in partnership with the Senior Director.
  • Lead fabric research and development, color execution, material testing, and quality assurance from concept through bulk production.
  • Manage mill and supplier partnerships, overseas full-package programs, negotiations, bulk projections, order placement, and delivery timelines.
  • Partner with Design, Product Development, Technical, Production, Print Design, and Global Sourcing teams on material selection, innovation, capacity planning, and seasonal calendars.
  • Manage costing, minimums, budgets, FOB and IMU targets, sustainability initiatives, risk mitigation, and material KPIs.
  • Lead, develop, and coach the materials team while maintaining PLM data integrity, material libraries, codes, documentation, and inventory records.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in raw materials and textile sourcing and development, including 3+ years of management experience.
  • Deep understanding of textile construction, material sourcing, production, and cost engineering.
  • Strong cost negotiation, problem-solving, organization, follow-up, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in PLM, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Bachelor’s degree in apparel, textiles, materials manufacturing, design, or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically and globally for up to 10% of the year.
