TL;DR
Material Developer, Apparel (Textile Development): Developing and commercializing apparel materials and trims across seasonal product creation with an accent on textile constructions, testing, costing, and supplier collaboration. Focus on evaluating performance knits and wovens, solving manufacturing and wear-test issues, maintaining material documentation, and translating emerging materials and technologies into commercial applications.

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States. Hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in the Seattle offices.

Salary: $91,931–$137,896 per year, plus potential annual bonus.

What you will do

  • Partner on material and trim development from concept brief through commercialization and production.
  • Collaborate with Product Line Management, Design, Development, Apparel Development, Sustainability, testing teams, mills, and suppliers.
  • Evaluate material and trim prototypes, performance attributes, wear-test issues, testing results, quality, and cost targets.
  • Maintain accurate material documentation in Flex, including fabric and trim detail sheets, test reports, approvals, and the digital reference library.
  • Identify emerging materials, trims, technologies, and manufacturing capabilities and translate opportunities into commercial applications.
  • Coordinate supplier visits, development trips, tradeshows, and domestic and international material shipments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Design or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, troubleshooting, and testing performance knits and wovens.
  • Deep understanding of textile testing methods, material constructions, raw material properties, and development processes.
  • Proficiency with PLM systems and digital material libraries.
  • Project management, communication, planning, problem-solving, and cross-functional leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with office software, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Keynote, and Illustrator.
