Senior Director of Financial Planning & Analysis

Location: San Jose, California, United States

Base pay: $280,456.2 per year, plus potential variable or incentive compensation and equity.

What you will do

• Evaluate major internal R&D projects and technical initiatives through ROI analysis, value realization tracking, and resource allocation optimization.
• Build financial models for R&D portfolio analysis, scenario planning, capital allocation, headcount planning, and project resources.
• Lead multi-year strategic planning, annual operating budgets, monthly forecasting, and variance analysis for the R&D organization.
• Advise Engineering and Product leadership on strategic decisions, investment cases, trade-offs, cost reduction, and operational improvements.
• Lead and mentor FP&A analysts supporting engineering and align financial processes with Finance, HR, and Legal.
• Deliver executive dashboards, KPI frameworks, and recommendations on R&D performance, investment returns, and resource effectiveness.

Requirements

• 12+ years of experience in financial analysis, FP&A, corporate finance, or strategic business analysis.
• 5+ years in a leadership or advisory role with cross-functional partnership experience.
• Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and advanced Excel; familiarity with FP&A software platforms.
• Strong business acumen, strategic thinking, communication, and executive presentation skills.
• Experience in R&D, engineering, technology, or product environments is preferred.
• Successful background and reference checks and proof of the right to work in the United States are required.
