Senior Accountant (Life Insurance)

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota; in-office at least 4 days per week, with flexibility to work from home 1 day per week. Some roles may require additional in-office time.

Base salary: $71,300–$98,100 per year. Additional variable pay may include bonuses, commissions, and/or long-term incentives.

What you will do

• Perform accounting processes for life company transactions in accordance with company policies, internal controls, GAAP, and other governing requirements.
• Prepare journal entries, account analyses, and investigations of unusual balances or fluctuations.
• Own assigned balance sheet accounts, research and clear reconciling items, and perform analytical reviews of monthly reconciliations.
• Collaborate with Finance and Client Service personnel to troubleshoot and resolve reconciliation issues across annuity and life insurance platforms.
• Participate as a subject matter expert on business projects and provide metrics to support business changes and objectives.
• Drive improvements in reconciliation quality, operational efficiency, automation, standardization, and risk reduction.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience.
• 3–5 years of accounting experience, including general ledger accounting, balance sheet reconciliations, account analysis, and financial reporting support.
• Ability to evaluate critical operational and financial problems and proactively apply action steps to resolve them.
• Ability to research and resolve balance sheet account variances in a timely manner.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manipulate and draw conclusions from large data sets.
• Proficiency with current desktop tools and advanced Excel skills, including formulas and pivot tables.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Valid U.S. work authorization that does not now or in the future require employment visa sponsorship.

• Experience with Access, Power BI, Alteryx, SQL, or similar data analysis and reporting tools.
• Innovative, forward-thinking approach to structured and unstructured data collection and analysis.
• Experience applying root cause analysis to critical operational and financial problems.
• Experience with bank reconciliation processes.
• Knowledge of annuity and life insurance products.
