Insurance Accounting Lead (Financial Services)

Location: Hybrid, with in-office presence highly preferred 2–3 days per week and required during significant process changes or new system implementations. Travel to Appleton, WI or Minneapolis, MN is expected for team collaboration sessions.

Salary: $89,895–$121,621 per year

What you will do

• Lead period-end close, general ledger, accounts payable, account reconciliation, and other high-volume accounting activities.
• Establish standards for process design, internal controls, system integrations, service levels, and audit compliance.
• Own accounting projects and system upgrades, coordinating requirements, testing, timelines, scope changes, and operational risk with IT and business partners.
• Maintain process documentation, control narratives, business continuity plans, KPI reporting, and risk indicators.
• Coordinate workload allocation, cross-training, responsibility rotation, shared inbox practices, and coverage across the accounting function.
• Drive continuous improvement, resolve complex cross-process issues, and communicate bottlenecks and recommendations to leadership.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 7+ years of experience in Finance, Accounting, or Operations.
• Deep understanding of transaction processing, general ledger reconciliations, controls, accounts payable operations, and ERP environments.
• Experience working with auditors and regulators, leading cross-functional initiatives, and coordinating workflows without direct authority.
• Experience with multiple accounting platforms, high-volume processes, shared services environments, and end-to-end process ownership.
• Advanced Excel skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and effective written and verbal communication.

Nice to have

• Experience in a complex financial services organization or large corporate environment.
• CPA, CMA, MBA, or progress toward certification.
• Experience with Power BI and Power Query.
• Success leading operational stabilization and continuous improvement initiatives.
