TL;DR
Senior / Lead Radiological Controls Technician (Radiation Protection): Supporting radiation protection programs at a DOE customer site, including radiological work planning, area monitoring, work permits, radioactive material measurements, and environmental, safety, and health activities with an accent on radiological controls, compliance, and field safety. Focus on mentoring technicians, performing complex radiological and chemical safety work, reducing contamination, and maintaining compliance with DOE requirements.

What you will do

  • Support Radiation Protection management with technical, administrative, and functional activities.
  • Plan radiological work, monitor radiological work areas, create radiological work permits, and oversee radiological work control.
  • Perform quantitative measurements and document results for radioactive material shipments, excess material release, and site waste.
  • Support field ES&H activities, including atmospheric monitoring, safety evaluations, self-assessments, and chemical hygiene controls.
  • Recommend corrective measures to reduce excessive contamination levels and perform complex radiological, industrial, and chemical safety tasks.
  • Mentor less experienced technicians and participate in Safety Work Groups.

Requirements

  • Current DOE L or Q clearance, or the ability to reinstate a recently inactive clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • At least three years of operational health physics experience, including one year in the DOE/NNSA complex or a Gaseous Diffusion Enrichment facility.
  • Current qualification as a Radiological Control Technician and successful completion of the RCT Fundamentals Academic Challenge Exam.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, direct, and supervise technicians, modify procedures, provide technical support, and conduct program or field audits.
  • Strong attention to detail, aptitude in math and science, ability to lift 50 pounds, and ability to wear respiratory protection.
