Radiation Safety Officer (Nuclear Energy)

Location: Initially remote, then transitioning to onsite in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Travel required: 0–10%.

Salary: $141,040–$188,053 annually; the range is specific to Philadelphia, PA.

What you will do

• Serve as Radiation Safety Officer for radioactive materials licenses and lead the local radiation safety program.
• Develop, implement, document, audit, and maintain radiation safety policies, procedures, surveys, and operating records.
• Supervise, lead, and mentor Health Physicists, Health Physicist Technicians, contractors, and other direct reports.
• Prepare licensing and permitting applications, amendments, reports, and regulatory submissions, while communicating with regulators and internal stakeholders.
• Direct operational radiation protection, Radiation Work Permits, ALARA requirements, radioactive material shipments, and facility readiness.
• Lead responses to contamination events, accidents, emergencies, decontamination activities, and radiological work investigations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Radiation Protection, Radiological or Health Science, Health Physics, or a related technical discipline with 5 years of experience; alternatively, a relevant master’s degree or PhD with 2 years of experience, CHP or NRC-recognized specialty certification, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 3 years of supervisory, mentoring, or equivalent leadership experience.
• Experience with radiological work planning, oversight, contamination and exposure-rate surveys, radiation detection instrumentation, and radioactive material compliance.
• Experience interpreting regulations, managing licenses, preparing regulator communications, and supporting operational and compliance programs.
• Ability to work independently, perform physical tasks with and without respiratory protection, lift up to 25 pounds, and work modified schedules or overtime as required.
• Applicants may be subject to U.S. Government export-control review; foreign nationals may require export authorization.

Nice to have

• CHP certification or another specialty-board certification recognized by the NRC.
