Research Technician - Brainard Lab (Neuroscience)

Location: Onsite at the University of California, San Francisco, 1550 4th Street, San Francisco, California, United States

Hourly hiring pay range: Research Tech I: $19.15–$23.94; Research Technician II: $22.88–$28.61.

What you will do

• Support neuroscience research projects involving behavioral, neurophysiological, genetic, and molecular approaches.
• Perform established experimental procedures and operate scientific instruments and laboratory equipment.
• Conduct behavioral experiments and analyze data using custom software.
• Assist with biological sample preparation, histological procedures, and potentially stereotaxic surgeries and viral construct injections in laboratory animals.
• Manage the laboratory bird colony, including preparing and changing food and water supplies.
• Maintain laboratory inventory, order supplies, stock work areas, and provide general laboratory support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Neuroscience, Bioengineering, or a related field.
• Practical experience with the laboratory and experimental techniques described in the posting.
• Knowledge of basic neuroscience and molecular biology principles through coursework or experience.
• Ability to work cooperatively with a research team and enthusiasm for developing new technical skills.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of laboratory work, including standing or sitting for extended periods, manipulating objects, moving around the workspace, and lifting materials weighing several pounds.
• Ability to work safely around potential hazards including chemicals, acids, low-dose radiation, toxic or carcinogenic substances, and malodorous vapors.
