Location: Onsite at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

Hiring pay range: $19.15–$23.94 per hour

What you will do

  • Conduct mutagenesis screens and create C. elegans strains through genetic crosses, CRISPR, transgenesis, and PCR genotyping.
  • Perform molecular cloning and microscopy, including fluorescent-protein imaging in C. elegans.
  • Process and analyze research data, including image processing, quantification, and statistics.
  • Maintain C. elegans cultures and assist with general laboratory maintenance.
  • Collaborate with an interactive, multidisciplinary team studying cellular fate determination and programmed cell death.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree with a strong academic record.
  • Coursework in biology, statistics, genetics, molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or cell biology.
  • Research laboratory experience beyond coursework, such as undergraduate research, and interest in becoming a professional biological researcher.
  • Strong organizational, critical-thinking, time-management, communication, documentation, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively while following laboratory safety procedures.

Nice to have

  • Experience with molecular cloning and C. elegans.
  • Basic computational and data-presentation skills using Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, ImageJ, or similar tools.
