Manufacturing Engineer IV (Advanced Composites): Leading and optimizing ballistic helmet and protective-system production in a regulated defense manufacturing environment with an accent on composite fabrication, process control, and ballistic performance. Focus on solving material and process defects, scaling production from prototype to full-rate manufacturing, and improving tooling, automation, equipment uptime, and yield.
Location: Newport, Vermont, United States; onsite manufacturing role

What you will do
- Develop, refine, and standardize manufacturing processes for ballistic helmet production, including layup, molding, pressing, trimming, finishing, and coating.
- Optimize cycle times, material utilization, yield, throughput, and equipment uptime while preserving ballistic integrity.
- Lead root cause analysis and failure investigations for delamination, voids, dimensional non-conformance, coating failures, and other process defects.
- Define critical process parameters such as temperature, pressure, cure time, and consolidation, and implement SPC and process controls.
- Partner with R&D on material qualification and process transfer, and support NPI and transition from prototype to full-rate production.
- Design tooling, fixtures, work instructions, and automation improvements; support ballistic testing, lot acceptance, capacity planning, and cost reduction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Materials, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- 8–12+ years of manufacturing engineering experience in composites, defense, aerospace, or protective equipment.
- Hands-on experience with molding, pressing, or composite fabrication processes.
- Strong understanding of process control, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement in safety-critical manufacturing.
- Experience or understanding of CAD and PLC logic, with strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to balance throughput and cost with uncompromising quality and compliance standards.
Nice to have
- Experience with ballistic materials such as aramids, UHMWPE, or hybrid composites.
- Familiarity with defense contracting requirements and documentation.
- Lean or Six Sigma certification at Green Belt or Black Belt level.
