TL;DR
Composites Manufacturing Engineer I (Aerospace Composites): Developing tooling, fixtures, and production processes for large liquid-fueled all-composite rockets with an accent on aerospace composite manufacturing, process optimization, and production readiness. Focus on designing custom composite tooling, resolving nonconformances, reducing cycle times, and implementing Lean and Six Sigma improvements.

Location: North Austin, Texas, United States. Due to ITAR export regulations, candidates must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, protected individuals, or eligible to obtain the required U.S. authorizations.

What you will do

  • Design and develop tooling, fixtures, and production equipment for aerospace composite components.
  • Optimize manufacturing processes, tooling, and fixtures to improve efficiency, quality, production capacity, and cycle times.
  • Own hardware development and production processes while supporting development and full-rate production programs.
  • Support manufacturing floor operations and collaborate with production teams to resolve production challenges.
  • Create work instructions and procedures, maintain quality controls, and resolve nonconformances through root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Work with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to implement continuous improvement, Lean, and Six Sigma initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
  • Experience in carbon fiber composite aerospace manufacturing.
  • At least 2 years of technical aptitude and the ability to become an expert in complex hardware.
  • Proficiency with CAD software for tooling and fixture design.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, analytical, and process-improvement skills.
  • Must meet U.S. ITAR eligibility requirements.

Nice to have

  • At least 2 years in an aerospace manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
  • Automated Fiber Placement experience.
  • Quick-turn custom composite tooling design and fabrication experience.
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Black Belt certification.
