Software Engineer (Python/Kubernetes)

Location: On-site at the Boulder Ground Information Facility in Boulder, Colorado

Salary: $100,000–$165,000 annually

What you will do

• Lead integration of a Python-based prototype with operational message types, systems, and infrastructure.
• Adapt, integrate, test, and transition an application that detects and separates closely spaced objects in EO/IR imagery.
• Prepare the application for deployment in a testbed and eventually in an operational Kubernetes environment.
• Design clear interfaces and resolve complex integration, performance, memory, dependency, and data-compatibility issues.
• Develop automated tests that validate software behavior and algorithm performance.
• Collaborate with engineers, users, decision-makers, and a small multidisciplinary team.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• At least three years of professional software engineering experience, including at least one year of professional Python development.
• Experience developing modular, reusable, and testable software and integrating components through structured messages, APIs, or defined interfaces.
• Experience with Docker or Podman, Linux-based development and deployment environments, and Git configuration management.
• Active SECRET security clearance required.
• Ability to work on-site at the BGIF in Boulder, Colorado required.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant technical discipline.
• Experience deploying applications in Kubernetes and defining or integrating Protocol Buffers messages.
• Experience transitioning research or prototype software into testbed or operational environments.
• Experience with Python applications using NumPy, scikit-image, or PyTorch.
• Familiarity with EO/IR, OPIR, GEOINT, image processing, sensor-data systems, and automated build, testing, security-scanning, or deployment pipelines.
