Software Engineer (Python)

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate backend services for the Tidy3D cloud simulation platform.
• Develop APIs, services, and data models for task submission, job state management, and result delivery.
• Build scheduling and resource management for simulation jobs across heterogeneous GPU capacity.
• Implement authentication, authorization, usage metering, and quota enforcement for a multi-tenant product.
• Manage Python package releases, CI/CD, staged rollouts, rollbacks, and deployment patterns for cloud, customer-managed cloud, and on-premises installations.
• Own monitoring, alerting, incident response, debugging, and cloud cost and capacity management.

Requirements

• 2+ years of experience building and operating production cloud services; exceptional new graduates are also encouraged to apply.
• Strong Python experience developing backend services.
• Hands-on experience with a major cloud provider such as AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Production infrastructure-as-code experience, ideally with Terraform and reusable modules.
• Fluency with Linux and confidence operating production systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with GPU or HPC workloads, cluster schedulers such as Slurm, Ray, or Kueue, or high-throughput batch computing.
• Experience designing, packaging, and distributing Python libraries or SDKs.
• Experience with on-premises, self-hosted, or air-gapped deployments and enterprise requirements such as SSO, network isolation, and security reviews.
• Background in physics, engineering, scientific computing, or technical software for technical users.
• Open-source contributions to infrastructure or scientific computing projects.
