TL;DR
Space Mission Software Engineer (Python): Building high-reliability ground segment services, mission control interfaces, simulation tools, and deployment platforms for spacecraft operations with an accent on telemetry, commanding, real-time data distribution, and safety-critical software. Focus on designing deterministic services, automating flight-software testing, and deploying mission systems across lab, test-range, and air-gapped environments.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. U.S. work authorization and U.S. person status are required due to ITAR and export-controlled technology access.

Salary: $131,000–$184,000 annually, plus potential stock options.

Company

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain high-reliability ground segment services for telemetry ingestion, scaling, distribution, and commanding.
  • Build operator-grade mission control UIs and dashboards for integration, testing, and on-orbit operations.
  • Create flight-software simulations, device emulators, and scenario-based automated tests for avionics, GNC, and operations teams.
  • Design and productionize mission-platform tooling, including CI/CD pipelines, artifact management, infrastructure as code, service templates, observability, and hardware-in-the-loop frameworks.
  • Implement robust deployments across lab benches, test stands, and mission networks, including safe rollout, rollback, and limited-connectivity strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
  • 3+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
  • Expertise in Python and strong understanding of systems fundamentals, including concurrency, networking, performance, and reliability.
  • Experience building real-time data acquisition, scaling, and distribution services using low-latency messaging and time-series or relational databases.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD, dependency and build systems, infrastructure as code, logging, metrics, and tracing.
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, release management, phased rollouts, and operational readiness for controlled networks.

Nice to have

  • Proficiency in C++, Ansible, or NiceGUI.
  • Experience with DAQ, closed-loop control, flight-software testing, simulation, or mission data tools.
  • Experience with safety-critical requirements, testing, certification artifacts, ground-systems standards, or mission-network security.
  • Experience building mission-grade UIs with structured command workflows, alarming, and situational awareness.

Culture & Benefits

  • Full-time benefits include flexible PTO and 12 paid holidays.
  • Company-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance, with FSA and employer-matched HSA options.
  • Parental leave, family-building support, wellness reimbursement, and sponsored One Medical memberships.
  • 401(k) plan with a 6% immediately vested employer match, equity incentives, and cell phone reimbursement.
  • Relocation support may be available for new hires.
  • Daily lunch, twice-weekly dinner, team events, and complimentary EV charging.
