Unit Coordinator (40 hrs/week, Evenings) - Periop/PACU (Hospital Administration): Coordinating patient activity, medical records, communications, bed assignments, and administrative workflows on a hospital unit with an accent on accurate information management and cross-department coordination. Focus on transcribing physician orders, supporting emergency communications, maintaining patient documentation, and coordinating admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Location: Tufts Medical Center; on-site, Monday–Friday, 1:00 pm–9:30 pm

Salary: $18.81–$23.51 per hour

What you will do

  • Coordinate patient activity and information flow, including admissions, transfers, discharges, bed changes, and bed-cleaning requests.
  • Review bed assignments and communicate updates to clinical staff.
  • Greet and direct patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel while answering and triaging unit calls.
  • Assemble, maintain, organize, and prepare patient charts and medical records according to hospital policy.
  • Enter and verify orders, update patient and bed information, transcribe physician orders, and generate reports using hospital computer systems.
  • Coordinate follow-up appointments, emergency communications, downtime activities, supplies, equipment, and onboarding support for new unit coordinators.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal, telephone, written communication, organizational, prioritization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to handle detailed and confidential information independently and work with staff across departments, physicians, patients, vendors, and the community.
  • Extensive medical terminology knowledge for communication and physician-order transcription.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and computer-based hospital systems.
  • Ability to sit frequently, stand or walk occasionally, lift 10–15 pounds, and operate a computer keyboard with manual dexterity.

Nice to have

  • One year of customer service experience in a healthcare or customer-facing setting.
  • Associate’s degree.
