Associate Senior Counsel, Claim

Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States; regular attendance at hearings, trials, depositions, court proceedings, and other appointments is required. Travel may be required for business needs.

Annual base salary: $120,400–$198,700, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What you will do

• Independently manage a caseload of moderate- to high-complexity insurance defense litigation, including potential Major Case matters.
• Prepare cases and use pre-trial and trial techniques to try matters to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other substantive legal documents.
• Attend hearings, trials, depositions, and other court events while advising insured clients and Claims partners on case strategies.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants, maintain client and business relationships, and provide legal training and updates.
• Mentor attorneys and legal support staff, contribute to special projects, and use case management and automation technology.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate or equivalent international legal degree from an accredited law school.
• At least 4 years of experience as a practicing attorney; 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience preferred.
• Active license in good standing to practice law in the state or states where representation is required.
• Experience handling hearings, trials, dispositive motion arguments, depositions, or other court proceedings.
• Strong oral and written advocacy, legal research, negotiation, decision-making, and case analysis skills.
• A valid driver's license may be required depending on the location.
