Director Knowledge Management & Innovation (AI)

Salary: $260,000–$390,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop and execute the firmwide knowledge management and innovation strategy, including investment plans, operating frameworks, metrics, and delivery roadmaps.
• Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of Knowledge Lawyers, Innovation Managers, and Knowledge Engineers across offices and geographic locations.
• Partner with firm leadership, attorneys, practice groups, IT, Legal Operations, and Practice Management to align initiatives with business and client-service priorities.
• Drive adoption of knowledge-sharing, process-improvement, and AI-enabled practices through stakeholder engagement, training, pilots, and change management.
• Establish quality standards for precedent libraries, model documents, playbooks, expertise resources, matter insights, and practice know-how.
• Oversee AI-readiness initiatives, technology-platform governance, matter data utilization, dashboards, and operational reporting.

Requirements

• J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and significant legal-practice experience in a major law firm, corporate legal department, or government legal environment.
• Substantial experience in knowledge management, practice innovation, professional support, or comparable legal operations.
• Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, recruiting, and developing high-performing teams.
• Ability to influence partners, attorneys, executive leadership, and senior business stakeholders in a highly matrixed environment.
• Deep understanding of legal technology and AI, including generative AI platforms, document automation, contract lifecycle management, knowledge management systems, and matter intelligence solutions.
• Experience leading organizational change, technology adoption, process improvement, and operational transformation initiatives.

Nice to have

• Legal practice experience in technology, life sciences, energy, financial services, real estate, construction, intellectual property, regulatory, or complex litigation.
• Leadership experience in an AmLaw 100 or similarly sophisticated legal environment.
• Experience supporting teams across multiple offices, jurisdictions, and geographic regions.
• Involvement in legal knowledge management, legal technology, or innovation communities.
• Familiarity with law firm economics and metrics such as utilization, realization, leverage, and alternative fee arrangements.
