Study Support Technician I – Aquatics (Temp-to-Hire) (Multiple Positions)

Location: Onsite at Janelia Research Campus, 19700 Helix Drive, Ashburn, VA 20147, United States. Candidates must be available to work rotating weekends.

What you will do

• Provide husbandry and animal care support for larval zebrafish, Danionella, and other aquatic species.
• Feed animals, clean tanks, conduct daily observations, maintain water filtration systems, and provide species-appropriate enrichment.
• Clean and sanitize animal holding and procedure rooms.
• Set up zebrafish and Danionella breeding units and perform directed technical procedures such as fin clips, injections, crossing, and clinical treatments.
• Maintain animal housing and study-support records in databases and record completed work.
• Assist with receiving, stocking, and maintaining supply inventories.

Requirements

• Six months of experience working with vertebrate animal species.
• Ability to identify changes in animal behavior or health and provide basic prescribed treatments.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, learn tasks quickly, and collaborate in a rapidly changing environment.
• Excellent Microsoft Office and/or Google Docs skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills when working with researchers, technical staff, administrators, management, contractors, and vendors.
• A college degree in life science or a related field is preferred; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Nice to have

• Experience in an academic, industry, or nonprofit basic or applied science research setting.
