Husbandry Technician I, Vivarium Operations (Biotech)

Location: Onsite in Rockville, Maryland, United States. Monday–Friday schedule with 5:00 or 6:00 a.m. starts, plus one rotating weekend per month and occasional holidays.

Salary: $20.00–$23.00 per hour.

What you will do

• Perform daily cage checks and weekly cage changes for mice.
• Monitor animal health and report concerns.
• Sanitize equipment, rooms, and vivarium facilities.
• Transport materials, supplies, and waste, and maintain organized stock and laboratory areas.
• Assist with surgical staple removal and study randomization.
• Record data in room logs and the laboratory information management system while following study protocols.

Requirements

• GED required.
• Strong computer skills and an organized, detail-oriented, process-oriented approach.
• Ability to follow procedures, receive feedback, communicate openly, and collaborate with colleagues.
• Ability to perform repetitive manual work involving sitting, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, and fine motor movements.
• Ability to lift and move packages weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work in a vivarium and research laboratory with routine exposure to odors, chemicals, sharps, blood, body fluids, and tissue.

Nice to have

• AALAS ALAT certification.
• One year of related experience in a contract research organization or similar research setting.
