What you will do

• Plan, lay out, and perform bench and machine operations to construct, modify, and repair tools, dies, fixtures, molds, gauges, attachments, and mechanisms.
• Set up, adjust, and operate machine-shop equipment for intricate tooling work.
• Perform difficult technical calculations and use precision measuring instruments for exacting measurements.
• Interpret complicated drawings and specifications, and select appropriate materials and allowances.
• Carry out development and experimental work, including proceeding from personal concepts when designs or specifications are unavailable.
• Organize workflow, support material handling, maintain safe work areas, and help train or guide other tool room personnel.

Requirements

• Completion of a state-qualified apprenticeship program or equivalent work experience.
• General education in verbal and written communication and technical math.
• Extensive knowledge of tooling practices and applications.
• Ability to calculate with decimals and fractions and interpret complex technical drawings.
• Ability to use a wide variety of precision measuring instruments.
• Ability to organize work, set priorities, and support or guide colleagues.
