Design Director, Equipment & Apparel (Outdoor Sports)

Location: Boulder, Colorado — in office

Salary: $120,000–$170,000 per year

What you will do

• Define the long-term design direction and multi-season product roadmap across equipment, apparel, and accessories.
• Lead concept generation, sketching, prototyping, technical documentation, and product design.
• Drive innovation in materials, construction, user experience, and technical solutions for mountain activities.
• Own seasonal product line architecture, line plans, product presentations, and merchandising discussions.
• Build relationships with mills, suppliers, factories, and development partners; source materials and oversee custom developments.
• Guide prototypes through commercialization, manage external contractors, and build scalable product processes and teams.

Requirements

• 6–10+ years of product design experience, ideally spanning performance apparel and equipment.
• Experience designing technical apparel and understanding materials, construction techniques, and manufacturing constraints.
• Direct experience working with factories and development partners in Asia.
• Strong functional design, problem-solving, visual judgment, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Ability to work strategically and hands-on in a small, fast-moving team.
• Strong understanding of the functional demands of skiing and running, including participation in product testing and wear testing.
