Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer Principal | NEW GENERATION and Oversight Engineering

Location: Columbus, Ohio; onsite in the office every day when not traveling for work. Approximately 25% travel is required, including day trips and overnight stays.

Base salary: $117,000–$151,000 per year. Compensation range: $116,255–$151,132.50.

What you will do

• Define and implement design-basis expectations for instrumentation and control systems with AE and EPC firms.
• Develop and review technical, EPC, retrofit, and new-generation equipment specifications and scope documents.
• Manage operational technology networks and devices to support system integration and communication.
• Implement cybersecurity practices for control systems and coordinate OT/IT integration.
• Engage OEMs during RFx processes and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Support construction, commissioning, technology evolution, and obsolescence management for retrofit and new-build projects.

Requirements

• Typically 8 or more years of related engineering experience with a bachelor's degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program, or 6 years with a master's degree or PhD in engineering.
• Experience in instrumentation and controls engineering, particularly for power-generation projects.
• Advanced knowledge of control theory, including PID, adaptive, and model-predictive control.
• Ability to create and interpret system descriptions, SAMA logic diagrams, P&IDs, schematics, and other technical documentation.
• Understanding of OT/IT integration, control-system cybersecurity, network configuration, firewalls, Ethernet, Modbus, OPC, and datalink setup.
• Professional Engineer registration in a U.S. state or Puerto Rico is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with gas, coal, and renewable-energy projects, including solar, battery, and wind systems.
• Knowledge of gas or combustion-turbine technology and GE Mark VIe control systems.
• Hands-on experience with DCS, PLC, and SCADA systems such as Rockwell, Emerson Ovation, ABB Symphony, Siemens, or Vestas.
• Experience with servers, thin clients, network equipment, computer-based instrumentation, regulatory compliance, or CEMS.
