Sr. Instrumentation & Controls Design Engineer

What you will do

• Lead the Automation, Instrumentation, and Controls discipline on projects ranging from simple to highly complex.
• Plan discipline work, manage project budgets, support proposals and scheduling, and coordinate with clients, vendors, construction partners, and internal teams.
• Develop construction drawing packages, engineering calculations, specifications, control system deliverables, and field implementation documentation.
• Lead field surveys, site inspections, RFI responses, submittal reviews, punch lists, and construction progress reporting.
• Perform technical quality checks and resolve non-compliant existing conditions identified during field work.
• Lead and mentor discipline engineers and designers while directing project execution.

Requirements

• ABET-accredited bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Robotics/Mechatronics.
• At least 10 years of Instrumentation and Control System Design experience, preferably in a design firm.
• Advanced experience with instrumentation and controls calculations, P&IDs, control system schematics, panel fabrication drawings, field wiring plans, and construction specifications.
• Experience with DCS, SCADA, PLC, BAS/BMS, EMS/CMS, industrial control systems, network architectures, and communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, BACnet, and IO-Link.
• Knowledge of GMP manufacturing environments, 21 CFR Part 11, ISPE GAMP, ASME BPE, ISA-88, ISA-95, and ISA-106.
• Ability to coordinate complex multidisciplinary projects, collaborate with construction trade partners and manufacturers, perform design calculations with limited supervision, and mentor staff.

Nice to have

• Professional Engineer registration or ISA Certified Automation Professional certification.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and discipline-specific software.
• Experience with Safety Instrumented Systems, electrical classified design, and applicable electrical, mechanical, building, and industry codes.
• Knowledge of DeltaV, Rockwell, Ignition, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Schneider, or comparable systems.
• Experience evaluating pharmaceutical 4.0 technologies, including robotics, ASRS, converged IT/OT architectures, AI and machine learning data solutions, MES, and virtual or augmented reality.
