Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

Location: On-site in Nashville, Tennessee, USA; approximately 10% travel for field investigations, commissioning support, and client meetings.

What you will do

• Prepare and support instrumentation and controls deliverables, including instrument indexes, I/O lists, control narratives, loop diagrams, panel layouts, network architecture diagrams, cable schedules, and technical specifications.
• Integrate, interface with, and evaluate programming logic across DCS and PLC platforms in industrial settings.
• Analyze breaker controls, process interlocks, industrial communication protocols, SCADA platforms, safety instrumented systems, and control system networks.
• Prepare or modify instrumentation and controls plans, specifications, studies, schedules, permits, and designs using computer-assisted engineering software.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers, clients, owners, contractors, and project stakeholders.
• Support field investigations, commissioning activities, and client meetings through occasional travel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Chemical Engineering, or an equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited school.
• Five or more years of experience in instrumentation and/or controls engineering.
• Experience with PLC, DCS, and/or SCADA control platforms in industrial environments.
• Detailed understanding of AutoCAD and/or Revit design software, plus familiarity with P&IDs, instrumentation tagging, and nomenclature.
• Knowledge of instrumentation and control principles, field instrument selection, setpoints, control frameworks, associated networks, ISA standards, and NEC codes.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and independent decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Nice to have

• Engineer in Training certification or an in-process I.T. certificate.
• Experience with related industrial projects.
