Manufacturing Engineer - Mid Level (Defense)

Location: New Hudson, Michigan, United States. The role is primarily performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent production-floor interaction, typically during 8am–4pm core hours. Some travel to customers, suppliers, build sites, and off-site events may be required.

Salary: $73,200–$117,800 per year.

What you will do

• Coordinate prototype build planning, sequencing, staffing, schedules, and daily execution.
• Act as the manufacturing liaison between project leadership, design and product engineering, and shop-floor teams.
• Ensure parts, tooling, equipment, facilities, documentation, and resources are ready for assembly and integration.
• Provide hands-on shop-floor support, troubleshoot build issues, and drive resolution of nonconformances and process gaps.
• Support DFM/DFA, assembly process definition, work instructions, build layouts, design reviews, and validation readiness.
• Coordinate material deliverables, logistics, supplier activities, off-site work, and risks affecting cost, schedule, and delivery.

Requirements

• BS in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering; an MS is preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant experience in mechanical system manufacturing, preferably in defense, automotive, or high-performance industries.
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, CMM measurement, and interpreting engineering prints.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD such as Creo, NX, Catia, or SolidWorks, plus working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills for collaboration across engineering, production, quality, purchasing, and program management.
• U.S. citizenship is required; the role supports a U.S. DoD topic and requires the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Nice to have

• Experience leading prototype or low-rate production builds, including gear manufacturing, assembly, and inspection.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality systems, ERP/MRP systems, and PLM systems such as Windchill.
• Experience with tooling and fixture design, DFM/A, PFMEA, process validation, and government defense compliance.
• Active Secret Level Tier 3 security clearance.
