Counsel - Data Protection, Privacy & Cyber Security

Location: Remote - Nationwide, United States; primary location Greenwood Village, Colorado.

Base salary: $144,200–$209,150 per year.

What you will do

• Research and interpret federal, state, and global privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, consumer protection, AML, sanctions, and financial crimes requirements.
• Advise business, Legal, Compliance, Risk, Technology, Cybersecurity, Product, and Operations stakeholders on practical regulatory solutions.
• Develop and maintain privacy, data protection, AML, financial crimes, information governance, and compliance policies and frameworks.
• Review and draft privacy and data protection provisions in commercial agreements, vendor contracts, and RFPs.
• Support cybersecurity incidents, regulatory examinations, inquiries, internal reviews, remediation, and records retention matters.
• Assess legal and regulatory issues involving AI-enabled tools, automated decision-making, data use, transparency, and governance.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a state bar.
• At least 3 years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, government agency, regulator, judicial clerkship, or similar setting.
• Strong legal research, analytical, writing, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Interest in privacy, data protection, cybersecurity, AML, financial crimes, and financial services regulation.
• Ability to communicate complex legal requirements clearly to legal and non-legal audiences.
• Sound judgment, discretion, integrity, collaboration, and willingness to learn.

Nice to have

• Experience or coursework in privacy, cybersecurity, AML/BSA, financial crimes, consumer financial services, securities, banking, or related regulation.
• Familiarity with GLBA, state privacy laws, the Bank Secrecy Act, USA PATRIOT Act, FinCEN guidance, or OFAC sanctions.
• Experience with financial services, fintech, retirement, wealth management, banking, insurance, or another regulated organization.
• CIPP/US certification or interest in obtaining it.
• Interest in emerging issues involving data, technology, AI, cybersecurity, fraud, or financial crimes.
