Associate Counsel, Privacy & AI (AI)

Location: US - Foster City, California; at least 3 days per week in the office

Salary: $152,900–$237,000 USD per year, with potential bonus, equity, and sales incentive payments where applicable.

What you will do

• Review, draft, and negotiate privacy, data protection, AI, cybersecurity, and technology provisions in vendor, supplier, and strategic technology agreements.
• Advise business, sourcing, procurement, and legal stakeholders on privacy, data use, cybersecurity, and AI risks in third-party engagements.
• Support AI governance and responsible AI initiatives through contractual frameworks, risk assessments, and operational processes.
• Monitor emerging privacy, data, and AI laws and help operationalize legal requirements across business and technology functions.
• Support legal reviews of new products, services, and AI-enabled features throughout the product lifecycle.
• Develop scalable governance resources, including playbooks, templates, guidance, and training, while partnering with cross-functional teams on practical risk-based solutions.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of work experience with a bachelor's degree, or an advanced degree with more than 2 years of experience.
• Juris Doctor degree or international equivalent, with strong academic credentials.
• Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Approximately 3–5 years of relevant legal experience in privacy, technology, commercial contracting, cybersecurity, data governance, or related regulatory matters.
• Experience negotiating technology, SaaS, cloud services, data licensing, or AI-related agreements.
• Familiarity with GDPR, U.S. state privacy laws, cross-border data transfers, emerging AI regulations, AI governance, machine learning technologies, and responsible AI principles.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting sourcing, procurement, or third-party risk management functions.
• Experience in payments, financial services, or technology industries.
• Combination of law firm and in-house experience.
• One or more IAPP certifications, such as CIPP, CIPM, CIPT, or AIGP.
