Sr. Counsel, Digital Assets

Location: New York City, hybrid. Candidates must independently be eligible to work in the United States for any employer; visa sponsorship is not available.

Base salary in New York, NY or San Francisco, CA: $226,000–$282,000 USD per year. Positions in Phoenix, AZ, Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC: $188,000–$235,000 USD per year. Additional discretionary incentive plan and benefits are available.

What you will do

• Serve as first-line legal counsel to product teams developing payment, digital asset, stablecoin, and blockchain solutions.
• Interpret and apply U.S. and international frameworks covering payments, bank regulation, privacy, consumer protection, anti-money laundering, and sanctions.
• Guide the launch, experimentation, and scaling of cross-border payment and digital asset products, corridors, settlement models, and payment rails.
• Draft, review, and negotiate strategic partner, sales, supplier, customer, and other complex commercial agreements.
• Prepare and approve product disclosures, disclaimers, terms of use, policies, standards, and operational guardrails.
• Manage outside counsel and support regulatory examinations, audits, litigation, corporate governance, and other legal proceedings.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admission to the Arizona or another U.S. state bar.
• Eight or more years of in-house or corporate counsel experience, preferably advising financial institutions or financial services companies.
• Significant experience with anti-money laundering, sanctions, data privacy, consumer protection, and financial services regulations, including BSA, FinCEN, FATF, OFAC, GLBA, CCPA, GDPR, Regulation E, UDAAP, and the FTC Act.
• Experience advising on emerging regulations for payments, cross-border money movement, digital assets, blockchain, or related financial infrastructure.
• Strong product and business judgment, including the ability to make risk-based decisions and develop practical solutions under evolving regulatory guidance.
• U.S. work authorization for any employer is required; visa sponsorship is unavailable. Successful candidates must also complete a background and drug screen.

Nice to have

• Experience leading crypto or digital asset licensing and registration efforts in the U.S. or internationally.
• Knowledge of international payments law, foreign regulatory regimes, digital asset regulations, privacy, anti-money laundering, and sanctions frameworks.
• Experience with stablecoin issuance, tokenized deposits, blockchain-enabled payment systems, wallet ecosystems, or crypto-native financial infrastructure.
• Experience supporting cross-border payment products across multiple jurisdictions, corridors, or regulatory regimes.
