Substation Technical Specialist (Electrical Substations)

Compensation: $80,000–$115,000 per year

What you will do

• Perform electrical engineering assignments under the supervision of a licensed engineer.
• Prepare drawings, calculations, analyses, reports, design sketches, and redline drawings for low-, medium-, and high-voltage substations.
• Develop one-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA schemes, communications plans, physical layouts, and material lists.
• Design and calculate conduit and cable routing, AC and DC systems, and substation grounding.
• Coordinate with Electrical CAD Drafters, Designers, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review drafting and design work and exercise judgment on significant engineering features.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in engineering or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• At least 5 years of engineering experience in the supported discipline.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards, national design standards, safety codes, and project specifications.
• Hands-on experience with discipline-specific computer applications and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Commitment to active participation in an employee-owned culture.

Nice to have

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with a power emphasis.
• Experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• At least 5 years of experience designing electrical lighting, power, and systems for utility projects.
• Experience or interest in sustainable design and LEED.
