Substation Engineer 2

Location: Remote - California, United States. Fully remote role with approximately 10% travel as needed. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary: $89,527–$111,909 per year.

What you will do

• Review substation layouts, equipment selections, specifications, and engineering designs against project requirements and industry standards.
• Review load-flow, short-circuit, and relay-coordination studies to support reliable and efficient designs.
• Prepare and review detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications using AutoCAD Electrical or Bluebeam.
• Coordinate with utilities, contractors, regulatory agencies, and internal engineering teams to obtain approvals and permits.
• Provide technical support during construction, testing, and commissioning, including remote and on-site troubleshooting.
• Perform root-cause analysis, recommend corrective actions, support safety audits, and maintain design documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience in substation design, construction, maintenance, or equivalent design work.
• Strong understanding of transmission, distribution, and generation power systems.
• Technical proficiency in substation layout, equipment sizing, and protection coordination.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, prioritization, and project-management skills.
• Legal authorization to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
• Experience with ETAP, SKM, or PSS/E.
• Familiarity with protection relay programming and SEL or GE Enervista software.
• Willingness to pursue professional licensure.
