Senior Substation Engineer (Remote)

Location: Fully remote within the United States; travel as needed, approximately 10%.

Salary: $112,084–$140,105 per year.

hirify.global provides infrastructure services for the power industry, designing, building, and maintaining utility-scale solar, battery storage, and high-voltage substation projects.

What you will do

• Design and review electrical substations, including layouts, equipment selection, sizing, and specifications.
• Review load flow, short-circuit, relay coordination, grounding, and other power system studies.
• Review engineering drawings, schematics, vendor proposals, and technical specifications using AutoCAD Electrical or Bluebeam.
• Coordinate with utilities, contractors, regulatory agencies, and cross-functional engineering and construction teams to obtain approvals and integrate substations into the power grid.
• Provide technical support during construction, testing, commissioning, inspections, and troubleshooting, including root-cause analysis of equipment failures.
• Develop engineering standards and documentation while mentoring junior engineers, technicians, and peers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 5 years of experience in substation design, construction, maintenance, or equivalent engineering design.
• Strong understanding of transmission, distribution, generation, substation layout, equipment sizing, and protection coordination.
• Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, or PSS/E for power system analysis.
• Knowledge of relevant IEEE, ANSI, and NESC standards and codes.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with protection relay programming, coordination studies, grounding studies, SEL, CDEGS, or GE Enervista.
• Willingness to pursue professional licensure.
• Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field.
