Field Mechanic - Highway Heavy Construction

Location: Granite Quarry, NC; primarily remote and field-based with extensive travel to multiple project locations and extended periods away from home

What you will do

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair heavy construction equipment in field environments.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs on equipment and support vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, drivetrain components, electrical systems, and undercarriage components.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency service calls at project sites.
• Document maintenance activities, manage service trucks, tools, parts inventory, and equipment records.
• Work with operators, foremen, superintendents, and equipment managers to resolve equipment issues and support project mobilization.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of heavy construction equipment maintenance and repair experience preferred.
• Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, including knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, diesel engine, and powertrain systems.
• Ability to read service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic information.
• Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and communicate effectively.
• Willingness to travel extensively, work overnight and extended hours, respond to emergency calls, and work away from home as project demands require.

Nice to have

• Experience with Caterpillar and John Deere excavators, dozers, loaders, graders, rollers, haul trucks, and articulated trucks.
• Experience with crushers, screening plants, paving and asphalt equipment, skid steers, compact equipment, service trucks, and support equipment.
• Welding and fabrication experience.
