Compression / Mechanical Engineer

Location: Houston, Texas; hybrid work format with travel to field sites and other offices as required

What you will do

• Develop technical scopes of work, equipment bid specifications, and engineering standards for compression projects.
• Size and select compression equipment based on operating conditions to optimize performance and long-term reliability.
• Provide technical oversight for fuel gas, air compressor, generator, ESD, filtration, cooling, recycle, tank, piping, valve, regulator, and relief systems.
• Evaluate equipment proposals, troubleshoot equipment issues, assess new technologies, and maintain vendor relationships.
• Support Field Operations, EHS, Project Management, Business Development, Gas Control, Regulatory, and Compliance teams.
• Support construction and commissioning by responding to RFIs and technical inquiries and contributing to infrastructure evaluations and risk assessments.

Requirements

• At least five years of post-degree experience designing and technically analyzing high-pressure natural gas compressor systems.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
• Knowledge of thermodynamics, natural gas compression equipment, reciprocating engines, gas turbines, electric motor drives, reciprocating compressors, and centrifugal compressors.
• Working knowledge of 49 CFR Part 192 and ASME B31.8, plus applicable API, NACE, NEC, OSHA, and other industry standards.
• Ability to interpret mechanical, civil/structural, and electrical schematics; proficiency with Word and Excel; strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and prioritization skills.
• Ability and willingness to travel with overnight stays, a valid driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record are required.

Nice to have

• Experience with vendor-supplied compressor sizing software.
• Working knowledge of compressor station layouts and components associated with the compression process.
