TL;DR
Principal Facilities Engineer (GMP): Supporting and optimizing critical facility and utility systems at a regulated pharmacy and manufacturing site with an accent on HVAC, electrical distribution, water systems, building automation, and cGMP compliance. Focus on commissioning and qualification, troubleshooting facility emergencies, leading root cause investigations, and maintaining reliable systems during the Wednesday–Sunday shift.

Location: On-site in Mesa, Arizona, United States. Scheduled shift: Wednesday–Sunday, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM, with on-call and emergency response outside scheduled hours.

What you will do

  • Serve as the on-site engineering lead for HVAC, electrical distribution, compressed air, purified and RO water, EMS, BMS/BAS, generators, and fire/life safety systems.
  • Review drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and HVAC designs for construction, renovation, and equipment installation projects.
  • Provide technical oversight for vendors and contractors, including installation, acceptance testing, punch-list closeout, commissioning, and system turnover.
  • Lead or support IQ/OQ/PQ qualification, change controls, requalification assessments, and compliance with cGMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 210/211, and applicable codes.
  • Investigate equipment failures, alarms, excursions, and emergency events while partnering with Quality on CAPAs and documentation.
  • Coach Maintenance Technicians and manage preventive-maintenance contracts, contractor relationships, capital improvements, SOPs, validation records, and regulatory files.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent hands-on experience may be considered.
  • 8–10 years of facilities engineering experience, including at least 7 years in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical, biotech, or manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of cGMP, FDA 21 CFR Part 210/211, and IQ/OQ/PQ validation documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC and controlled environments, electrical distribution, compressed air, purified water/WFI, EMS, and BMS platforms.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and P&IDs, troubleshoot emergencies, coordinate maintenance, and manage contractors.
  • Must work the Wednesday–Sunday, 2:00 PM–10:00 PM shift and be available for on-call or emergency response; must work on-site in Mesa.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms such as Maximo, UpKeep, or MaintainX.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent CAD tools.
  • PE licensure is not required.
