Associate Director, Project & Portfolio Management (Biotech)

Location: United States, California, El Segundo

Salary: $177,905–$230,230 per year, plus potential discretionary annual bonus, stock-based long-term incentives, paid time off, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of project and portfolio management methodology, standards, and operating practices across Tech Ops.
• Build and scale a PPM Center of Excellence with practical tools, templates, playbooks, training, and guidance.
• Assess PPM maturity and identify improvements to strengthen planning, execution discipline, portfolio visibility, and decision-making.
• Design future-state ways of working that balance consistency with the needs of different initiatives, teams, and priorities.
• Drive adoption through stakeholder engagement, change management, training, coaching, and implementation support.
• Define portfolio metrics, identify risks and trends, and influence cross-functional PPM representatives in a matrixed environment.

Requirements

• PhD/Doctorate with 2+ years, a Master's Degree with 8+ years, a Bachelor's Degree with 10+ years, or a High School Diploma/GED with 14+ years of relevant experience.
• Strong background in project management, portfolio management, PMO, PPM Center of Excellence, or operating model design.
• Experience building or maturing PPM capabilities, including methodology, governance models, standards, frameworks, tools, templates, playbooks, training, and adoption plans.
• Experience assessing PPM maturity and identifying practical, high-value improvements across teams or functions.
• Experience leading change and influencing stakeholders without direct authority in a matrixed environment.
• Ability to translate complex frameworks, processes, and portfolio insights into clear, practical guidance.

Nice to have

• 10+ years of relevant experience.
• Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience.
• Experience defining portfolio visibility, metrics, and reporting for process effectiveness, risks, trends, and improvement opportunities.
