TL;DR
Technical Accounting Manager (US GAAP/SEC Reporting): Leading technical accounting analysis, policy development, and financial reporting support for a regulated utility with an accent on complex transactions, emerging accounting guidance, and cross-functional collaboration. Focus on researching accounting positions, evaluating FASB and SEC developments, reviewing benefit-related journal entries, and supervising technical accounting staff.

Location: Columbus, Ohio – Arena District; hybrid schedule with 3 days per week in the office. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Salary: $113,500–$170,300 per year

What you will do

  • Analyze complex transactions, new accounting standards, and financial reporting requirements across the organization.
  • Research and document accounting positions, prepare technical accounting position papers, and maintain accounting policies.
  • Assess emerging FASB and SEC guidance and communicate potential impacts through presentations and leadership briefings.
  • Review monthly and quarterly journal entries and controller’s letters related to incentive compensation, pensions, postretirement benefits, AFUDC, and other technical matters.
  • Partner with FP&A, legal, treasury, regulatory, IT, tax, and other stakeholders on GAAP recognition timing and capitalization assessments.
  • Supervise and develop staff, lead projects, conduct training, and share regulated-utility accounting practices through industry committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related subject.
  • At least six years of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience, including supervisory experience.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including US GAAP, FASB standards, SEC reporting, leases, pensions, postretirement benefits, treasury activities, equity-based compensation, restructurings, goodwill impairment, contingencies, and impairments.
  • Ability to lead projects and staff, coordinate cross-functional activities, manage complex issues, and prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Strong written, presentation, and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • CPA certification required upon hire; legal authorization to work in the United States required without current or future employer sponsorship.
