Location: Washington, DC offices; onsite position

Salary: $25.49–$26.92 per hour, based on experience

What you will do

• Write clean, concise breaking news copy under tight deadlines, prioritizing immediacy and accuracy.
• Research stories, conduct interviews, verify facts, and develop sources for news insights and context.
• Craft articles focused on audience engagement and use social media to share stories, interact with audiences, and monitor trends.
• Collaborate with editors and other journalists to coordinate appropriate coverage of DC newsmakers, policy decisions, and national news.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field.
• Excellent knowledge of current events and politics, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work under deadline pressure, manage multiple assignments, and maintain attention to detail.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends, holidays, nights, overnights, and early mornings.

Nice to have

• Previous reporting experience in a metro or national media environment.
• Familiarity with Google Trends, SEO, and real-time analytics.
