TL;DR
System Design Engineer (Gas Pipelines) (Natural Gas Pipeline Engineering): Developing and maintaining hydraulic simulation models for natural gas transmission systems with an accent on pipeline capacity analysis, compression facilities, and operational studies. Focus on modeling steady-state and transient flow, evaluating outage and contract impacts, supporting rupture mitigation valve settings, and preparing FERC reports.

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain hydraulic simulation models for natural gas transmission systems.
  • Analyze steady-state and transient seasonal pipeline capacity, including capacity available under existing contracts.
  • Update Electronic Bulletin Boards with pipeline segment and meter design capacities.
  • Perform operational studies and assess capacity impacts from facility outages with Gas Control, Operations, Project Management, Scheduling, Marketing, and Contract Services.
  • Perform transient simulations for Rupture Mitigation Valve rate-of-change settings in accordance with the PHMSA rule.
  • Prepare FERC annual reports, including FERC Form 567, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce emissions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering, with emphasis on fluid flow dynamics and/or thermodynamics.
  • 3–5 years of related experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Knowledge of compressible fluids, flow dynamics, pipeline hydraulic modeling, and natural gas compression facilities.
  • Familiarity with design codes such as 49 CFR Part 192.
  • Strong teamwork, interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with office and field employees across multiple departments.

Nice to have

  • Experience with NextGen, WinFlow, or WinTran hydraulic simulation packages.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, VBA, SQL, Google Earth, GIS, and SCADA.
