Automation Engineer (Oil & Gas)

Location: Midland, Texas, United States; work is performed in office and field environments, with periodic visits to remote field sites.

What you will do

• Develop, program, and maintain PLC control systems for upstream production facilities.
• Create Cause & Effect matrices and implement control logic based on P&IDs and control narratives.
• Design and specify PLC, I/O, and communication control panels.
• Prepare I/O lists, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and other automation and electrical documentation.
• Support site layouts, cable routing, automation infrastructure planning, commissioning, troubleshooting, and startup.
• Collaborate with engineering, operations, and field personnel to deliver reliable automation solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum of 3 years of automation experience in upstream oil and gas facilities.
• Proven PLC programming and industrial control system development experience.
• Working knowledge of instrumentation, electrical design, and control panel layouts.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and control system documentation.
• Ability to work at industrial and outdoor sites, including elevated noise, varying temperatures, confined spaces, ladders, heavy machinery, and required PPE.

Nice to have

• Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, IDEC, and ABB PLC platforms.
• Familiarity with Fisher ROC units and Totalflow flow computers.
• Knowledge of I&E devices used in upstream oil and gas operations.
• Experience with SCADA systems in upstream environments.
