Electrical Engineer (Packaging Automation)

Location: Oakville, Ontario, Canada; approximately 20–25% travel to customer sites in the United States, with occasional international travel.

Salary: CAD 105,000–130,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop complete electrical design packages, including bills of materials, schematics, layouts, and assembly drawings.
• Own electrical design for packaging machines and full automated packaging lines, aligning solutions with customer specifications and internal standards.
• Design and coordinate power distribution systems, including motor control centers and power distribution panels.
• Review documentation, interpret functional requirements and vendor information, and select components for performance, cost efficiency, and maintainability.
• Provide technical guidance during equipment build, testing, and commissioning.
• Collaborate with controls teams on PLC/HMI integration and contribute to design standardization and innovation.

Requirements

• 5–10 years of Electrical Engineering experience with a strong design focus and a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience in industrial equipment, packaging, or manufacturing environments.
• Expertise in electrical system design and low-voltage power distribution up to 600V.
• Experience with schematics, panel layouts, system architecture, industrial networks, and system integration.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent design tools, plus PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley or Siemens systems.
• Knowledge of North American electrical standards and strong communication and technical documentation skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with FactoryTalk, Wonderware, or similar platforms.
• Exposure to robotics, servo systems, and variable-frequency drives.
• P.Eng. designation.
