Lead Electrical Engineer (Industrial Automation)

Location: On-site in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 per year, plus bonus or incentive pay.

What you will do

• Develop electrical design documentation for industrial automation systems, including schematics, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and bills of materials.
• Design and implement electrical systems from R&D prototypes through production-ready solutions, including component sizing, DFMEA, requirements traceability, verification, validation, and regulatory compliance.
• Support cable assembly, electrical component integration, equipment installation, development, and testing activities.
• Create and optimize 3D layouts for electrical components in enclosures, control panels, and junction boxes.
• Drive continuous improvement through collaboration with mechanical, controls, manufacturing, and quality engineering teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with 3–7 years of relevant industry experience.
• Experience developing electrical and pneumatic design documentation using AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks Electrical.
• Hands-on experience with electrical system integration, wiring, panel builds, and commissioning.
• Understanding of motors, drives, sensors, and industrial automation equipment.
• Experience contributing to cross-functional engineering projects, technical planning, risk tracking, and milestone execution.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, including DfX, DFMEA, and root cause analysis, in R&D and production environments.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of IEEE, NEC, IEC, CE, UL, and CSA electrical safety and regulatory standards.
• Registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC as a P.Eng. or EIT.
• Experience with PCB/PCBA design, circuit analysis, power systems, power electronics, robotics, motion control, PLCs, or industrial controls architecture.
• Exposure to continuous improvement methods such as Lean or DBS.
