Electrical Engineer/Designer (Industrial Controls)

Location: Burlington, Ontario, Canada

Salary: CAD 85,000–98,000 per year, plus benefits, bonuses, and additional extra-hours payments.

What you will do

• Design, develop, analyze, and specify electrical control systems, hardware, safety systems, pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, and related mechanical systems.
• Create bidding, scope, user, and system design functional specification documentation.
• Perform risk assessments, material procurement coordination, panel fabrication specification, and construction budgeting.
• Troubleshoot electrical installations, complete commissioning summaries, and conduct technical surveys and inspections.
• Prepare contractor schedules and work plans, lead bidding meetings and walkthroughs, and monitor subcontractor safety, quality, and budget compliance.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and less experienced system designers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical education.
• 6+ years of experience designing electrical control systems.
• Extensive knowledge of electrical design and its effects on other engineering disciplines.
• Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills, including experience handling complex or unusual matters independently.
• Knowledge of industrial IT and systems design, with the ability to adapt to new technologies and industry changes.
• Willingness to travel between 30% and 50% of the time.

Nice to have

• Experience with AutoCAD, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Modicon, GE, and PLC I/O buses and communications.
• Experience with motor starters, field sensors, variable frequency drives, servo motion control, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and safety monitoring systems.
