Chief Engineer/Broadcast IT Operations Manager (Broadcast IT)

Location: Albany, New York, United States

Salary: $80,000–$98,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

What you will do

• Manage the Engineering and Broadcast IT Departments, including staffing, scheduling, mentoring, performance management, and project assignments.
• Oversee playout, media asset management, video servers, routers, storage, IP infrastructure, newsroom systems, and cloud-based production workflows.
• Maintain and test redundancy systems and business continuity plans supporting 24/7 broadcast and digital operations.
• Direct maintenance and troubleshooting of broadcast hardware, transmitters, microwave equipment, RF systems, A/V routing, audio, graphics, editing, phone, and intercom systems.
• Plan technology upgrades, baseband-to-IP migrations, facility improvements, and capital projects within approved budgets.
• Ensure compliance with FCC rules and applicable local, state, and federal laws while collaborating with News, Production, and other departments.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or technical degree in Digital Electronics, Broadcasting, Information Technology, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 5 years of experience in broadcast, IT, and/or television production environments.
• At least 3 years of management or supervisory experience leading technical teams.
• Strong knowledge of networking, including TCP/IP, UDP, Spanning Tree, and network performance optimization.
• Working knowledge of AWS, Azure, or GCP, CDNs, IP video, encoding and decoding, HLS, DASH, RTMP, cloud playout, and Dante digital audio.
• Ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays; a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record are required.

Nice to have

• Cisco CCNA, SBE, and/or SMPTE certification.
• Dante certification.
