Test Technician II (Electrical Testing)

Location: Dallas, Texas; field assignments across the United States. Requires out-of-town travel for up to several weeks at a time, including flexible hours, weekends, holidays, overtime, and night work.

Salary: USD $38.00–$51.00 per hour, depending on experience, education, skills, location, and other factors.

What you will do

• Test and commission electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment in utility substations, generating stations, and industrial plants.
• Perform testing and troubleshooting of protective relays, control systems, circuit breakers, transformers, regulators, batteries, and related equipment.
• Conduct isolation, setpoint, logic, scheme, and equipment testing using applicable IEEE and NETA standards.
• Prepare, review, and maintain detailed test reports, project documentation, drawings, progress updates, and test results.
• Participate in project meetings, formal walkdowns, commissioning, startup, and risk mitigation activities.
• Support engineers and technicians while maintaining safe work practices and accurate as-left project records.

Requirements

• Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent training and experience, such as journeyman electrician training or military electrical programs.
• Beginning-level knowledge of electrical systems and a solid understanding of AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, interconnect drawings, and one-line and three-line diagrams.
• Ability to analyze drawings, learn test-equipment software, document testing, and troubleshoot protection and control systems.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
• Valid U.S. driver’s license issued by the state of residence and in good standing required.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of test equipment and communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with microprocessor relays and related software, settings, and logic applications from manufacturers such as SEL, GE, ABB, ZIV, Alstom, Beckwith, and NXTPhase.
• Experience with electromechanical and solid-state relays, audio tone equipment, and electrical equipment testing.
• Good PC skills and experience with Adobe and Microsoft programs.
